Social Security

The question of cover for social security is first-of-all a question of deciding country of entitlement to receive benefits and, consequently, which and at what level benefits may be expected. This will vary and rely completely on domestic legislation. Within the EU and EEA– and by means of bilateral totalization agreements – rules have been established to determine country of cover incl. possibility to remain covered in one country during limited physical stay in another.

Obligation to pay contributions will follow the cover. As the contribution vary a lot (from very limited to up to 20-30-40%) it will be crucial to know where cover may be expected prior to initiating a cross border activity and structure an assignment in line with the expected. 

At Relocare we can assist with planning and implementing as well as bring understanding of the rules to the business and assist the employee with applications and securing of entitlement during assignments.

For business travelers, social security coverage is also needed.

It is a legal requirement that all business travelers have an approved A1 social security application with them from their country of social security for all business travels – also those lasting one day!

The A1 application is needed for travels in all European countries and it needs to be accurate. Employees not in control of or handling the A1 application process oppose a risk to the company with possible heavy fines and non-compliant status for the company.

Although the A1 application form has the same name all over Europe, the different European countries have different needs for data and different processes for filing the A1 application.

Some countries demand online filing, whereas other countries demand manual filing of the form.

In 2019 this has changed, and all countries are expected to have an online filing option in the future.

Relocare has thus developped an App – Social Security App https://socialsecurityapp.eu/

Our aim was to create a super simple, flexible and agile tool for HR to secure compliance for their employees in a world with increasing demands.

Once onboarded, employees will only be involved, when they have to confirm a travel. Handling time can be reduced to 30 sec. per application compared to the app. 1 hour a manual application takes.

The company will be fully compliant and in line with both current compliance demands but also in advance with the future requirements likely to come for Posted Workers Directive, tax and immigration purposes.
