Danish Culture Training for International Employees and Families

Meet Denmark – understand the culture, working life and everyday life

Moving to Denmark involves much more than housing, tax and practical registrations. Understanding Danish culture, communication, working life and social norms has a significant impact on how quickly international employees and their families feel confident and settle into life in Denmark.

Meet Denmark is Relocare’s cultural training course for international employees, accompanying partners and families. The course is based on more than 18 years of experience helping people build a successful working and family life in Denmark.

The course is practical and provides participants with insights, perspectives and concrete tools that they can use immediately, both in the workplace and in everyday life.

Why is understanding Danish culture important?

Danish culture may initially appear informal and straightforward. However, behind the informal communication style are a number of unspoken expectations concerning communication, collaboration, independence, leadership and social relationships.

It can, for example, be difficult to understand when a Danish manager is giving praise, how directly employees are expected to communicate, or why colleagues do not necessarily invite new employees into their private social networks.

When these cultural patterns become clearer, it becomes easier to understand colleagues, participate actively in the workplace and build a good life in Denmark.

What participants will gain

  • A deeper understanding of Danish culture, values and society
  • Insight into Danish workplace culture, leadership and collaboration
  • An understanding of Danish communication, feedback and humour
  • Knowledge of social norms and unspoken expectations
  • Tools for handling cultural differences and misunderstandings
  • Inspiration for building networks, friendships and family life in Denmark
  • Greater confidence when interacting with Danes, both professionally and privately

Course content

The course content is adapted to the participants and the individual company, but may include:

  • Personal goals for living and working in Denmark
  • Danish history, society, politics and values
  • Traditions and everyday life in Denmark
  • Language, communication and feedback
  • Danish management, colleagues and workplace culture
  • Humour, trust, independence and teamwork
  • Intercultural competencies
  • Friendships, networks and social relationships
  • Family life and the experience of accompanying partners
  • Practical and cultural challenges of living in Denmark

For employees and their families

An international move affects the entire family. Meet Denmark is therefore relevant not only for the employee, but also for accompanying partners and other family members.

The course helps families understand the cultural differences they may encounter in everyday life and provides a shared language for the experiences and challenges that come with living in a new country.

For companies

Cultural understanding can support faster onboarding, stronger collaboration and better retention of international employees.

When employees and their families feel confident and understand the society and workplace they have joined, the foundation for a successful international assignment becomes much stronger.

Open courses and tailored company training

Meet Denmark is available both as an open course and as a tailored company programme.

A tailored course can be designed around the company’s culture, the employees’ roles and the specific challenges they encounter in Denmark.
