Relocare’s History

Else Christensen founded Relocare in 2007 based on her own experience and the final dissertation of her BA Hons. Degree in Business Administration – specialized in strategy.

When Else Christensen was 25 years old, she was headhunted by a world leading company in Paris to be in charge of starting the bakery development department with responsibility for EAME for a company working with flavoring. It was a big challenge for a 25-year-old, who did not speak French, and who had to work in a primary French team. It was not just a cultural challenge for her, but also a culture shock for her colleagues to work together with an inquiring, passionate, Danish woman, who was completely unfamiliar with a hierarchical organization. Actually she had been working independently with management and teaching since she was 17 years old. The relocation help she was given was sparse and she slept on an air mattrass for six months before she felt confident enough in her job to have her furniture sent to France. She had two good years in Paris with exciting tasks and great personal and professional development. After that she was headhunted by the competitor in Geneva in Switzerland 27 years old.

She was still responsible for development of EAME, but more comprising since the branches had many more people. In addition, she was working with the marketing manager for the baking department and was given responsibility within the global research team. Here Else Christensen experienced great assistance with relocation and was taken care of with regards to work and residence permits, housing, car, bank and even help to find a stable for her horse that had been left back in Denmark during her stay in Paris. She was introduced to everyone and had a very warm welcome. Because she was a Dane she had a lot of people coming to her to hear more about her network, market opportunities, products and potential customers, etc. She experienced a noticeable difference in her own work, which was much better than when she was introduced in Paris.

Three years after she decided to study her BA Hons., as part of her own development. She was commuting between Copenhagen and Geneva for a year while she was studying. When she became pregnant with twins, she decided to study in Denmark and thus have the maternity here as well.

She decided to write her thesis on the subject “Why can’t the Danish companies get the highly skilled expats they need, and is it due to the tax burden”. She chose the topic, because Novo Nordisk, MAERSK, Danisco and several other claimed that they could not attract expats due to the tax burden.

relocare history

Compared to her own experience she had not decided on Switzerland because of the tax level. She knew that if it had to do with money, then it was all about the net salary. Therefore, she initiated an international survey where she asked questions such as: “What is your salary and your benefits?” – “What were the important parameters for your decision on where to work?” – “Why did you decide to stay?” and “Why did you decide to leave?”.

The conclusion was extremely different from the claims of the big companies, and it led her to a market segment in Denmark which was not served with the complete package. Her professor told her, “You have to start a company now – contact them and them”. She could do nothing but try it out.

That was the start of Relocare. Since the early years of the company, Relocare has had a healthy economy and a sustainable growth, which is what Relocare is all about. Our motto says, “It’s all about people” and “We Care”, and those are certainly not empty words, but the essence of how the company is managed – internally and externally.

In 2014 the subsidiaries Relocare Group ApS and Relocare Taxation International ApS were founded. Today Relocare is the only consultancy in Europe offering the entire package within global mobility, recruitment, relocation, international taxation, family relocation inclusive of spouse job search, HR consulting service, export sales and internationalization of the business portfolio. We assist with everything when it comes to international growth as well as attracting and retaining the best international employees.

From the beginning Relocare’s staff has been highly educated, experienced and competent employees. Early 2016 Relocare has 23 employees and consultants employed on full-time, part-time or on consultancy basis; depending on the needs.
